Marco Roque de Freitas is an ethnomusicologist, Assistant Professor (Tenure) in the Department of Musical Sciences at NOVA FCSH, and an integrated researcher at the Institute of Ethnomusicology: Centre for Studies in Music and Dance (INET-md) at NOVA University Lisbon, where he co-coordinates the thematic line 'Studies on Women, Gender, and Sexuality'. His theoretical interests focus on the following topics: Nation-building and nationalism in postcolonial Africa; Expressive behaviour, gender and sexuality; Expressive culture and memory politics in the Autonomous Region of Madeira; Popular music and the study of music industries; Music, propaganda and conflict; Musical theatre, voice and ‘racial imagination’; Digital humanities and research infrastructures; Research Ethics and History of Ethnomusicology.
