Ramiro Sámano Robles obtained his degree in Telecommunications engineering from the national university of Mexico (UNAM) in 2001 addressing the topic of corrugated horn antennas. He has professional experience as PCB and RF up-converter design engineer. He has also experience as technology evaluation engineer in a cellular operator where he was involved in trials for 2.5G/3G networks, intelligent network, location-based services, smart antennas, and SMS. He also held a position as research assistant at UNAM in 2001-2002 working on shaped reflector design for satellites in the team led by renowned former NASA crew member Neri Vela. He later obtained his MSc in Telecommunications and Information Systems from the University of Essex in 2003 with the topic of entropy of computation, and the PhD in signal processing for wireless communications from the University of Leeds in 2007 focusing on retransmission diversity. He held a postdoctoral position from 2008 to 2014 at the Institute of Telecommunications in Aveiro, Portugal, where he was involved in the management and scientific contribution of national FCT and European research projects. He acted as work-package (WP) leader for radio resource allocation in the project UNITE which developed a virtual distributed testbed for simulators/emulators across Europe, WP leader of system level simulation of the project FUTON that developed a distributed antenna Radio-over fibre cellular network architecture for 4G, and WP leader of radio resource management of the project CODIV, which explored the impact of cooperating relays in 4G operating as large virtual MIMO systems. He was also WP leader of PHY-layer of the project ASPIRE which addressed RFID COTS middleware design. He is currently an integrated researcher in CISTER which is a Research Unit based at the School of Engineering of the Polytechnic Institute of Porto. In this period, he worked in the succession of three EU projects: DEWI, SCOTT, and InSecTT. The three projects had around 50 partners distributed in multiple use cases (between 13 and 20) in multiple industrial domains with reusable/interoperable technical components. DEWI focused on dependable wireless sensors networks using IoT protocols to enable interoperability. SCOTT expanded on DEWI by addressing security and trustworthiness of IoT, and InSecTT built on top of this by addressing the convergence of AI (artificial intelligence), IoT and edge computing. He acted as PI of InSecTT for CISTER/ISEP. The researcher was part of the core team of these projects and other central roles. He was chair of the technical board of DEWI and SCOTT, and core member of the same body in InSecTT. In DEWI, he acted as leader of the aeronautics domain, leader of the use case (UC) of active flow control, and leader of the task of standardization, regulation, and certification. In SCOTT he acted as leader of the UC secure wireless avionics intra-communications (WAICs), and in InSecTT he acted as leader of the WP of AI for wireless communications and the UC leader of AI for WAICs. He also led CISTER contributions in the tasks of AI V&V, trusted AI, Dependable wireless, AI for real time, Verification and validation, and the collaboration in the UCs of AI for vehicle platooning communication, and Security testing. In the three projects he acted as the leader of the reference architecture, which addressed alignment and high-level interoperability analysis across domains, and as the liaison representative between the consortia and the ISO/IEC JTC1 SC41 WG5 producing technical reports on active flow control. The researcher has multiple papers in relevant publications and conferences, and he has been part of the TPC of several top conferences, being general chair of the ICDM conference held in Porto in 2016, and key-note speaker at the national event of polytechnic schools of Mexico in 2013 held in Puebla, Mexico. He also currently acts as scientific board president of CISTER

  1. On the central Chi-square distribution with even degrees of freedom and correlated multivariate complex components. This paper presents the derivation new expressions for the statistics of a Chi-square distribution with $n$ degrees of freedom and where n is an even number. The complex Gaussian components of the chi-square distribution are modelled with a linear correlated model using different statistics (multi-rate) for each component. We focus on the specific expressions for the probability density function (. 2019. Samano-Robles, Ramiro. http://hdl.handle.net/10400.22/15299.
  2. Performance Analysis of Network Diversity Multiple Access with Sequential Terminal Detection and Non-Orthogonal Training Sequences. This paper presents a new approach for terminal presence detection in the family of algorithms called network diversity multiple access (NDMA). The new scheme is based on non-orthogonal sequences. In NDMA, system-induced retransmissions are used to resolve the conflicts between colliding terminals. The key initial aspect in NDMA is to use signal processing tools to identify the size of the collisi. 2018. Samano-Robles, Ramiro. http://hdl.handle.net/10400.22/12312.
