Carlos Manuel Soares is a PhD candidate in Sports Sciences, specializing in Physical Activity and Health, at the Faculty of Sports Science and Physical Education, University of Coimbra. He also works as an adjunct professor at the Higher Institute of Educational Sciences - Douro, where he teaches courses in Exercise Biochemistry and Epidemiology of Physical Activity. Carlos is an active member of several professional organisations, including the International Society for Exercise and Immunology, the European College of Sport Science, and the Portuguese Society of Physiology (SPF). He earned his Master of Science in High-Performance Training from the University of Lisbon - Faculty of Human Kinetics in 2007 and his 5-year Degree Graduation with a monograph of Science in Physical Education, Health, and Sports from the Instituto Superior de Ciências de Saúde do Norte in 2003. His main research interest is in the molecular physiology of exercise. Carlos's research currently focuses on the effects of lifelong sports participation on the immune system and the cellular and molecular mechanisms associated with a reduced risk of cancer. Carlos Soares has (co)authored articles in international peer-reviewed journals and presented abstracts and posters at international conferences. He has also contributed as an ad-hoc volunteer reviewer for two scientific journals.
