Luiza Lins is a collaborating researcher at the Communication and Society Research Centre (CECS), Institute of Social Sciences, University of Minho. She was a postdoctoral fellow at CECS from 2022 to 2025 as part of the project "MigraMediaActs - Migrations, media and activisms in Portuguese: decolonising mediascapes and imagining alternative futures (PTDC/COM-CSS/3121/2021), funded by the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT), and is currently a collaborating researcher with the University of Minho team on the European project CONCILIARE – Confidently Changing Colonial Heritage (Horizon Europe, 2024–2027). She holds a Ph.D. in Social Psychology (2022) from the Federal University of Paraíba (UFPB), Brazil, and completed her doctoral internship at the Complutense University of Madrid (UCM), Spain, where she conducted research in the Department of Social Anthropology and Social Psychology. She also holds a Bachelor's and a Master's degree in Psychology from the Federal University of Sergipe (UFS), Brazil. Her recent research focuses on migration, memory, and intercultural communication, with particular attention to social representations of the colonial past. She has examined, for instance, the role of cinema as a space for the construction, reproduction, and (re)construction of social representations of identity and migratory experiences, as well as its potential as a form of memory activism that represents alterity and highlights socially relevant issues, such as contemporary migration. Her work also investigates narratives of national history for different audiences, as Portuguese secondary school students. Among her recent publications are “Social memory and decolonial challenges: reflections from a study on representations of historical personalities in Brazil and Portugal” (2025), “There’s no escaping what they teach us: debates on public memory and education with Portuguese secondary school students” (2024), “Cinema as a space for memory activism: an analysis of publicly funded film production in Portugal” (2024), “The History of my Country: Reflections on Social Memory and the Futures of the Past in the Narratives of Portuguese Youth” (2024), and “Exploring images of otherness through cinema: Analysis of counter-visualities in Portuguese films” (2023). She has also authored book chapters and research reports resulting from interdisciplinary and collaborative projects conducted with established research teams across diverse fields, institutions, and geographic contexts. Her research interests include social memory, media, intergroup relations, migration, social representations, gender, intersectionality, discrimination, and social identities.
