Ana Dinis holds a PhD in Biological Sciences since 2014 from the University of Madeira. Her main research interests focus on marine megafauna ecology, namely the study of social structure, group dynamics, residency, movement patterns, and human impacts of highly social species in the Macaronesian region. She has gained extensive experience in cetacean identification in the field, analysis of photo-identification data, and survey techniques (land-based, nautical, and aerial) during the last 20 years. Additionally, she has experience in biopsy sampling and tagging using radio-telemetry and satellite tags. She has been involved in four national and eleven international projects, seven of them in the last six years, being coordinator in one and co-coordinator in six. In recent years, she has focused on plastic pollution and emergent contaminants, as well as ecosystem services in oceanic environments. She co-supervised PhD students, master's students, and research fellowships (master level). She has authored or co-authored > 30 peer-reviewed publications, two books, 16 oral presentations, and >30 conference poster communications. She has been a member of the Marine Mammal Expert Group (OMMEG) under ICG-COBAM / BDC, for the OSPAR Commission, since 2021.
