Gabriela V. Martins is an enthusiastic scientist who earned her PhD degree in Nanotechnologies and Nanosciences from the Faculty of Science and Technology at the University of Lisbon (FCT/UNL) in December 2018. Under the guidance of Prof. Goreti Sales and Prof. Elvira Fortunato, she conducted groundbreaking research at BioMark Sensor Research (ISEP/Porto) and CENIMAT (FCT/UNL/Lisboa). Her doctoral work focused on the development of innovative sensing devices for sustainable point-of-care platforms, specifically designed for the detection of oxidative stress biomarkers. With a strong foundation in electrochemical (bio)sensing platforms, Gabriela has demonstrated a keen interest in the rapid diagnosis of various biomarkers. Currently, she serves as a post-doctoral researcher at the LabRISE@CIETI research unit (ISEP/Porto), showcasing her commitment to advancing scientific knowledge. From 2017 to 2020, Gabriela played a pivotal role as the Principal Researcher of the NovSPE project, a collaborative effort within the IBEROS Network (Spain/Portugal) - Bioengineering Institute for Healthy Aging. The project aimed to revolutionize the production of Screen-Printed Electrodes, contributing to research and innovation for improved quality of life, particularly in the context of age-related diseases. Gabriela's leadership skills are evident in her role as the Project Leader for the FCT-funded "SmartBioPatch" project, initiated in January 2022. This 18-month project focuses on the development of innovative biosensors integrated into flexible biomaterial dressings for chronic wound management. More recently, she has secured national funding through FCT projects (2022.07897.PTDC) as the co-Principal Investigator, emphasizing her expertise in biomimetic optical detection systems. Gabriela's impact is reflected in her h-index of 10 (Scopus), along with a remarkable publication record. She has authored 13 scientific papers in international peer-reviewed journals, accumulating 368 citations. Additionally, she has contributed to the writing of four book chapters and presented her research findings at numerous international scientific meetings, delivering eight oral and eight poster presentations. In her commitment to mentorship, Gabriela has guided three students through their master's theses, co-oriented two students in their bachelor's theses, and supervised five students during short-term internships. Her dedication to both research and education underscores her comprehensive approach to advancing scientific knowledge and fostering the next generation of scientists.
