Pedro Ferreira Santos is graduated (2011) in Biotechnological Engineering from the Polytechnic Institute of Bragança (IPB), MSc (2013) in Pharmacy and Chemistry of Natural Products from IPB and U.Salamanca (Spain), and PhD (2021) in Food Science and Technology and Nutrition from Minho, Aveiro and Católica Portuguesa Universities. I started the scientific path as a research fellow at U. Salamanca (2013-2016) on the study of the effect of dietary natural compounds and their mechanisms of action on cardiovascular and metabolic diseases (BIO/SA86/13 and Fp7-Sme-2012-315349-Fofind projects), resulting in several publications and one commercial product (LOWPEPT). In October 2016, joined the Centre of Biological Engineering - U.Minho with a Doctoral advanced training fellowship funded under the scope of CCDR-N (NORTE-08-5369-FSE-000036). He participated as a collaborator in the INTERREG V-B Sudoe project (REDVALUE-SOE1/P1/E0123). I spent 4-months at the EVRA Srl (IT) under a Training fellowship by Marie Sklodowska-Curie grant (FODIAC 778388) and 2-months at the Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore (IT). In 2021, I worked 9 months as a research fellow at UMinho-BOSCH project (Easy Ride - Experience is Everything) developing an integrated system to detect harmful gases. From 2021 to 2023 Pedro was a Junior Researcher at CEB-UM, associated with the AgriFood XXI project (NORTE- 01-0145-FEDER-000041), to enhance the development and consolidation of research in the agri-food sector in Northern Portugal. Currently, I am a researcher under the Juan de la Cierva Spanish national program at the Department of Chemical Engineering, University of Vigo (Spain) where I am PI in a project granted by the Ourense Deputation (INOU23-03) and an Interreg Sudoe (S1/1.1/E0116 - NEWPOWER), 2 projects as team member , and I teach in several disciplines of the food and engineering degrees. His scientific activity is related to: i) Extraction and purification of bio-based molecules obtained from plants, agri-food by-products and algae using intensified green processes; ii) Chemical, functional, and structural characterization of isolated molecules iii) In vitro, in silico and in vivo bioaccessibility, mechanisms of action and bioactive potential; iv) Assessment of nutritional and technological aspects related to the development of functional foods and nutraceuticals. I have autonomously worked in each of my previous positions, looking to increase my potential and acquire new knowledge and research skills. I have published 4 book chapters and 47 peer-reviewed articles, most in the top 25% (>90%). I have an h-index of 16 and more than 750 citations in Scopus. He has presented more than 40 communications in congresses. It is worth noting my capacity to network, with 108 researchers from Portugal, Spain, Italy, Morocco, Colombia, Mexico, etc., among my co-authors in articles. As mentioned previously, I have been directly involved in 11 research projects as a collaborator or team member. I have supervised 4 MSc theses, 4 Degree projects, and 4 internship students. I am currently the supervisor of 4 Doctoral thesis, 1 Degree, and 1 Master projects. I have taught more than 100 h at the degree and master levels, and specialized seminars in workshops. I am an editor for Molecules (MDPI), Frontiers in Sustainable Food Systems, and Frontiers in Chemistry. Moreover, I collaborate as a reviewer in 16 SCI journals in the fields of Food Science and Technology and Pharmacology. I highlight my international mobility: Portugal (7 years), Spain (5 years), Brazil (6 months), Italy (6 months) and France (1 month). This fact provided me with an important multidisciplinary network for future collaborations. Finally, I was able to interact with different national and international companies in order to enable technology transfer.
