He is currently working as a Researcher at the Marine Plant Ecology Research Group (ALGAE) at the Centre of Marine Sciences (CCMAR) of the Algarve since 2018, with a focus on the ecology of marine vegetated habitats. Published 2 articles in peer review journals, has 1 article currently submitted, 3 environmental impact reports for local agencies and coauthored 1 conference paper. He participated in 5 different research projects. He mentored 10 IMBRsea Master students in their lab work and is currently mentoring 1 BSc student for her final project and 1 MSc student for her MSc thesis. He was also awarded with a mobility fund in 2015 to complete his BSc studies in Woods Hole MA, USA. 2022/06/13 - 2022/06/28 Speaker to the school group Padre João Coelho Cabanita as part of the dissemination of the SeagHorse project works. I gave several speaks, from first grades to nineth grades, how we determined the natural diet of seahorses and its importance for the survivability of the species.
Meeting
2021/05 - 2021/05 Speaker to the secondary education class of Escola Secundária Dr.ª Laura Ayres in Quarteira, Portugal where I discussed the importance of seagrass meadows in Ria Formosa, the ecosystem services they provide and the threats they face, including the recent expansion of an invasive green seaweed in the lagoon.
Meeting
Agrupamento de Escolas Dra Laura Ayres, Portugal
2019/05 - 2019/05 Guide for the Education Week with Initiatives in Environmental Volunteering (SEIVA, in Portuguese). During one day I took several school classes to see seagrass meadows in the Culatra Island, in the Ria Formosa lagoon. I spoke about the ecosystem services they provide, particularly the provision of food and shelter for macroinvertebrates and nursery for fish and cephalopods. We than collected sediment samples, sorted and identified the associated infauna and epifauna into major groups to show them the biodiversity enhancement of seagrasses.
