Haoran Chi has been working in the Instituto de Telecomunicacoes, Portugal since Aug 2019, where he is currently a Permanent Senior Researcher, in the group of Telecommunications and Networking – Av. Before that, he worked as a research scholar at the North Carolina State University in 2018-2019. He obtained his Ph.D. and Bachelor with First Class Honor from the City University of Hong Kong in 2018 and 2013, respectively. During his career, Dr. Chi has obtained expertise knowledge on 5G (beyond) telecommunication, cloud/fog-based network management, and machine learning. Dr. Chi has published more than 90 technical papers. Currently Dr. Chi’s h-index is 20, with >1700 citations. He is included in the list of the world’s top 2% scientists of 2024. Dr. Chi has successfully coordinated and managed multiple European projects. He is the WP manager of EU (Exigence, Safe-home (CELTIC), Joconet, MUSCLES (CELTIC)) and FCT (5G-AHEAD) projects, PI of the Portuguese institutional project NICE-HOME. Dr. Chi is the Senior Editor of IEEE Transactions on Consumer Electronics (TCE), Deputy Editor-in-Chief of IEEE TCE Letters, Associate Editor of IEEE Transactions on Industrial Informatics (TII), IEEE Communications Standards Magazine (CSM), Guest Editor of IEEE Transactions on Consumer Electronics, IEEE Transactions on Industrial Informatics, IEEE Journal of Biomedical and Health Informatics, Sensors, Journal of Sensor and Actuator Networks, etc. He is awarded as the Outstanding SE for IEEE TCE, Outstanding AE/Exemplary Editor for IEEE TII, CSM and TCE. He is a reviewer for >20 Q1/Q2 journals, with >200 manuscript reviews. He has led/organized multiple Special Sessions in reputational IEEE international conferences (IECON, INDIN, ICC, etc.). Dr. Chi has won 3 Best Paper Awards from IEEE reputational conferences. Dr. Chi is the Vice Chair and Liaison Leader of IEEE IES Technical Committee on Building, Automation, Control and Management. He is the Vice Chair of IEEE Standard P1451.5.5 Working Group and IEEE Standard P1451.5.6 Working Group. He is an active member of IEEE Standard P1451.5.10 Working Group, and IEEE Standard P2668 (successfully approved in Dec. 2022).
