I have a B.A in Biology, a M.A in Environmental Engineering and a PhD Excellence Cum Laude in Biology by the University of Santiago de Compostela (dissertation defense February 2021). I am a Margarita Salas Postdoctoral fellow working at the University of Aveiro (CESAM, Biology Dpt) and the University of Santiago de Compostela (CRETUS, Ecopast). My research is focused on coastal soils biogeochemistry, with a special interest in seagrass soils and salt marshes. My PhD thesis was developed withing the SUMILEN project funded by the Spanish Ministry of Economy, Industry and Competitiveness, which intended to advance in the sampling techniques, biogeochemical characterization, and quantification of millenary deposits of seagrasses. Besides my doctoral research, I also had the opportunity to participate in two other projects, PALEOPARK and Life Blue Natura. The PALEOPARK project, funded by the Spanish National Parks Autonomous Agency, focused on the use of paleo-archives as tools for the reconstruction of the dynamics of coastal and terrestrial ecosystems in the Spanish insular National Parks. The Life Blue Natura project, funded by LIFE programme of the European Union and coordinated by the Public Administration of the Andalusia autonomous region, aimed to develop the legal frame to include restoration of blue carbon ecosystems as offsetting projects through the voluntary carbon market. My tasks included assisting in the design of field work-plan, coordination of laboratory work, stocks and fluxes estimations and coordination of undergraduate students¿ work. Due to the expertise acquired in this project I was hired as an external consultant to review the soil blue carbon estimations and salt marsh and seagrass restoration methodologies for the "Manual for the Creation of Blue Carbon Projects in Europe and the Mediterranean" (IUCN). I have published 5 scientific papers as first and corresponding author, co-authored other 4 publications and presented my work in 5 scientific conferences (oral presentations). I acted as scientific reviewer for Science of the Total Environment, Limnology and Oceanography and Frontiers in Marine Science. Currently I maintain a large collaboration network including experts in seagrass and salt marsh soils from Spain, Australia, Sweden and Portugal. I participated in four sampling campaigns, two of them abord a research vessel, with organization responsibilities in two of them, and have skills in underwater and land sediment/soil core sampling in both seagrass meadows and salt marshes. My laboratory skills include sediment/soil and plant material processing and analysis and microbial incubations. I also have advanced user level of open-source software like R, GIMP2 and QGIS. On the course of my PhD, I have participated in the supervision and task coordination of 8 undergraduate students and 2 high school students. I also participated in science outreach activities, such as the Open Days of the Advanced Studies Center of Blanes (2019, 2018), International Day of Women and Girls in Science (2019) and the Open Day Event inside the ¿García del Cid¿ oceanographic vessel (2017). I was lecturer within the Coastal Ecosystems Biodiversity, Exploitation and Degradation Project for high school students of Fundació Xatrac (2021) and a guest lecturer at the Mediterranean Marine Ecosystems Course from the Fundació CRAM (2021), the Blue Carbon Course for Managers of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN, 2019) and at a seminar for high school teachers Paleobiology: How past can help us to manage the future (2017). Furthermore, I have lead organization tasks and participated as the main lecturer in the Blue Carbon Workshop for Scientist and Technicians (2018) and the Sizing Blue Carbon International Course (2019), both held at the Advanced Studies Center of Blanes (CEAB-CSIC).
