José Eduardo Castanheiro é Licenciado em Engenharia Química (1996) pela Universidade NOVA de Lisboa e Doutorado em Engenharia Química na Especialidade Engenharia da Reação Química (2024), também pela mesma Universidade. É docente na Universidade de Évora desde 1997. Entre 2004 e 2023 foi Professor Auxiliar. Desde de 2023, é Professor Associado com Agregação na Universidade de Évora. Os seu principais interesses são a conversão catalítica de compostos provenientes de matéria prima renovável. É autor de vários artigos científicos capítulos de livros. Tem um índice h=23 (Scopus) e o número de citações igual a 1962 (Scopus). Orientou vários alunos de Licenciatura, Mestrado e Doutoramento. Tem uma patente. Foi diretor do curso de de Licenciatura em Biotecnologia entre 2021 a 2023 e adjunto do diretor de mesmo curso desde 2023. Entre Abril de 2023 a Mio de 2025, foi diretor do Departamento de Química e Bioquímica da Universidade de Évora. José Eduardo Castanheiro has a degree in Chemical Engineering (1996) from NOVA University Lisbon and a PhD in Chemical Engineering, specializing in Chemical Reaction Engineering (2024), also from the same university. He has been a lecturer at the University of Évora since 1997. Between 2004 and 2023, he was an Assistant Professor. Since 2023, he has been an Associate Professor with Aggregation at the University of Évora. His main interests are the catalytic conversion of compounds from renewable raw materials. He is the author of several scientific articles and book chapters. He has an h-index of 23 (Scopus) and 1962 citations (Scopus). He has supervised several undergraduate, master's, and doctoral students. He holds one patent. He was director of the Biotechnology undergraduate program from 2021 to 2023 and has been assistant director of the same program since 2023. From April 2023 to May 2025, he was director of the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at the University of Évora.
