Sergey Mikhalev (Nationality Portuguese) completed his doctorate degree in the Technology of Rare, Radioactive and Trace Elements on 2004/01/19 from the Ural State Technical University - UPI. Between 2004-2007, Sergey Mikhalev was the Assistant Professor in the Department of Rare Metals and Nanomaterials at the Ural State University, USTU-UPI, Russia, and served as the Deputy Dean of the Physical-Engineering Faculty. During this time, he gained extensive supervision experience, being actively involved in the teaching and mentoring of large numbers of graduate and postgraduate students (supervised more than 20 graduate works). He has published 52 articles in International SCI journals in the field of solid-state electrochemistry and 13 conference publications related to the electrochemistry of melts. Sergey Mikhalev has participated as a Post-Doctoral Fellow in 7 projects and served as the Principal Investigator of the exploratory project Molten Alloy Electrochemical Cells for Plastic Waste Conversion (EXPL / EMS-ENE / 1497/2013). His expertise lies in Materials Engineering with a strong focus on Electrochemistry, especially on electrochemical measurements performed in challenging environments such as melts. His key areas of specialization include molten salts, molten metals, solid-state electrochemistry, proton conductors, oxide ion conductors, coulometric titration, electrodeposition of metals, corrosion protection, metallurgy, electrorefining, and electrodeposition. Sergey Mikhalev has collaborated with 51 co-authors on scientific publications. He has extensive experience in the research and development of both high-temperature batteries and solid-state batteries, including their design, electrochemical performance optimization, and materials innovation for energy storage systems. His work has included advanced studies on the use of molten salts and solid electrolytes for high-temperature energy storage applications, as well as the development of solid-state battery technologies using proton and oxide-ion conductors. Sergey Mikhalev is the leading author of 3 patents related to the use of sulfates in energy storage: International Patent number: WO/2018/154488 (Publication date: 30.08.2018) US Patent number: US/2019/0379009 (Publication date: 12.12.2019) European Patent number: EP3586385 (Publication date: 01.01.2020).
