Carmen Susana de Deus Rodrigues is a Junior Researcher at LEPABE. She completed her PhD in Environmental Engineering at the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Porto in 2013, focusing on applying Advanced Oxidation Processes alone or combined with coagulation/flocculation and biological degradation for wastewater treatment. During her professional career, she is/was involved in developing studies for degraded organic compounds from liquid and gas effluents and inactivated bacteria with or without antibiotic resistance and antibiotic resistance genes present in wastewater. The wastewater disinfection by AOPs was a new theme developed by LEPABE and Carmen Rodrigues is the leader. Of the work she was involved in, 44 papers were published in ISI journals, 3 book chapters, and more than 55 communications at mostly international conferences. It is worth mentioning Carmen Rodrigues has developed works in collaboration with numerous partners, namely from the Associate laboratory LSRE-LCM (hosted at FEUP), Institute of Experimental and Technological Biology (IBET), Associated Laboratory for Green Chemistry (LAVQ/REQUIMTE), University of Granada (Spain), Paulista State University Julio de Mesquita Filho – UNESP - and Federal University of Pernambuco (Brazil), University of Lorraine (France) and National Institute of Applied Sciences of Toulouse (France), University of Pune (India) and School of Engineering/Polytechnic Institute of Porto (ISEP). She has also collaborated with national institutes (IDIT, CCDRN, ADP, IHRH) and industries (EFACEC, Adventech, GALP and Simdouro) in the framework of national and international academic and industrial cooperative research. The combination of her scientific background in wastewater and gas stream treatment leads to is the Principal Investigator of VOCAdvanced project funded by FCT and, she is also team member of more 9 project, which one of them industrially-driven (VERPRAZ) and another in collaboration with Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee (WASTENERGY, DOI: 10.54499/DRI/India/0504/2020). She is /was supervising/co-supervising 4 PhD, 9 master and 13 ungraduated students, as well as 1 junior and 4 young researches and 3 short-term internships. Carmen Rodrigues has participated in knowledge dissemination actions through the organization of a webinar (VOCAdvanced webinar: Volatile organic compounds - from problem to treatment”, which took place on the 21st of June 2022), creation of VOCAdvanced project website (web.fe.up.pt/~vocadvanced/), the production of promotional videos for two R&D projects (VERPRAZ project – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Oma2HlvfvJc and VOCADvanced project - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fDoRPjhOYoo), being that in the latter she was the principal researcher, released during the “Amostra da UP” in 2021 and belongs to local organizational committee of the on Contaminants of Emerging Concern (CECs) and Disinfection By-Products (DBPs): Occurrence, Impact and Elimination, to be held in Vila Nova de Gaia (Portugal) in November 2024.
