João Pedro Correia holds a Master’s degree (2024) and a Bachelor’s degree (2022) in Materials Engineering, both from the University of Aveiro, where he is currently pursuing a PhD in Materials Science and Engineering (since September 2024), specialising in materials for biomedical applications. He also serves as Laboratory Manager at the University of Aveiro. He has been actively engaged in scientific research, having participated in two research initiation projects and, more recently, serving as a research fellow in the FEEDVALUE project, focused on the valorisation of agri-food by-products for sustainable applications. His work has included carbonaceous materials derived from apple waste, such as biochar and activated carbons, for methane and CO2 adsorption/mitigation. He is currently a research fellow in TechTraPlastiCE, strengthening university technology-transfer capabilities to support circular-economy value chains for plastics in Latin America. João Pedro has presented his work at several national and international conferences, including Materiais 2025 (poster), Research Summit 2025 (oral), NetPore 2025 (oral), EmergeMAT 2025 (oral), and Jornadas CICECO 2025 (poster). Committed to expanding his scientific knowledge and international collaboration, he has participated in advanced training schools and COST activities, including the PhD School “Natural Materials for Advanced Applications”, the Summer School “Future Trends on CNMs-Based Composites”, the Final MC Meeting of CA19118 EsSENce, and the NanoSpace Training School on Advanced Characterization of Carbon Materials. He is a member of the NanoSpace COST Action and has applied to join two additional COST Actions, including CA22153 EuroCurvoBioNet. In addition to his academic and research activities, he co-organised a charity event in support of ACAPO – the Portuguese Association of the Blind and Amblyopic.
