Paula Alexandra Aquino Maia

I am a Biologist, graduated in the University of Aveiro and have concluded my PhD in Environmental Sciences in 2014. My previous work has focused on vegetation studies on burnt forest, particularly Eucalyptus globulus and Pinus pinaster plantations. An important part of my current research focuses on post-fire regeneration of Pinus pinaster, one of the most important tree species in Portugal. I have conducted studies on recovery of forest systems, after disturbances such as forest fire and ecosystem restoration, both as researcher member and project coordinator. I have colaborated as a lecturer in the Biology Department, and acted as a Tutor for several BsC and MsC Students, in the scientific areas of Forest Ecology and Ecosystem Services. Currently I am a Researcher at the University of Aveiro and CESAM, and am developing Multifunctional Forest Management scenarios, under the framework of project FoRES (EEAgrants), with the objective of evaluating their effect in decreasing fire propagation area, under future climate scenarios.
