José SENA CRUZ is an Associate Professor with Habilitation at the Department of Civil Engineering of the University of Minho. He is Co-Director of the ISISE (https://isise.net/) Research Center (more than members 80 members with doctorates; more than 180 doctoral students; funding 14MEURO/year), since 2023, Director of the European Erasmus Mundus Joint Master Course in Advanced Structural Analysis and Design using Composite Materials - FRP++ (https://msc-frp.org/), since 2022, Director board member of Associated Laboratory for Advanced Production and Intelligent Systems (ARISE), since 2022, Vice-director of Institute of Science And Innovation for Bio-Sustainability (IB-S), since 2021, Member of the Scientific Council of School of Engineering of UMinho, since 2012, Director board member of the Structural Lab of UMinho (LEST), since 2013, Vice-President of the Portuguese Group of Structural Concrete (GPBE), since 2019, Member of Executive Committee of IIFC, since 2023. Specialized in Finite Element Analysis; Computational mechanics; Composite materials and structures; Repairing and strengthening RC structures with composite materials; Testing and constitutive laws; Monitoring; Durability and long-term behaviour of composite materials used in existing and new structures, as well as the development of innovative solutions for sustainable sustainability on and offshore. He is co-author of approximately 400 publications (books, book chapters, papers in international and national journals, international and national conferences, scientific and technical reports, and book notes) - 88 are papers published in international top journals (Scopus: h-index 31; citations 2989). He participated in 37 national and international R&D projects, being 11 as Principal Investigator (coordinator), with a global budget of c.a. 19M¿ (6.3MEURO for UMinho). In these projects, in addition to the active participation also scientifically supervised 24 researchers. He supervised 19 PhD students (9 concluded), 11 as the main supervisor, and 45 completed MSc dissertations, 5 involving abroad institutions; 2 professors, and 4 visiting researchers. In terms of the career development of researchers, have been supporting 2 Post-Docs, providing the necessary support for their evolution. He has been actively participating in international networks (CEN, fib, Rilem, COST actions), namely: CEN/TC 250, as a former member of the PT WG4.T2; fib TG 5.1 FRP reinforcement for concrete structures and TG 8.1 Model technical specification for repairs and interventions as a member; COST Action CA18120, as science communication coordinator; COST Action TU1207, as co-chair of WG4; RILEM TC 234-DUC, as secretary and member of the TC. He participated in +50 (+35 as coordinator) consultancy works in the areas of inspection, diagnosis, and reinforcement of structures. Most of these works are highly complex, which implies the systematic use of applied research, associated with serious structural problems, while in other cases they concern the assessment of load capacity, usually throughout load tests. He has participated in teaching 30 different curricular units within the scope of the following main UMinho educational programs: Doctoral Program in Civil Engineering, European Master Course in Advanced Structural Analysis and Design using Composite Materials, European Master's in Structural Analysis of Monuments and Historical Constructions, Master's in Civil Engineering (MEC), Integrated Master's in Civil Engineering (MIEC), Integrated Master's in Architecture (MIARQ). The main courses/subjects taught are: strengthening of the built heritage; advanced techniques in structural analysis; experimental analysis; repairing and strengthening techniques; reinforced concrete structures; composite materials in the industry; design of structures with FRP composites.
