Giordano Cotti obtained his Ph.D. in Geometry and Mathematical Physics from the Scuola Internazionale Superiore di Studi Avanzati (SISSA) in Trieste, Italy, on 19 September 2017. His research lies in the Exact Sciences, with a primary focus on Pure Mathematics, particularly Geometry and Mathematical Physics. He is currently an FCT Researcher at the Grupo de Física Matemática, based at the Instituto Superior Técnico (IST), following the recent relocation of the group from the Faculdade de Ciências da Universidade de Lisboa (FCUL). Since January 2025, he holds a permanent FCT Tenure position as Auxiliary Researcher and serves as Professor Auxiliar Convidado at the Department of Mathematics of IST. Previously, he was a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Max-Planck-Institut für Mathematik, a Postdoctoral Research Associate at the University of Birmingham (School of Mathematics), where he was a member of an EPSRC-funded project, and a Visiting Researcher at the Hausdorff Research Institute for Mathematics. He is the author or co-author of 18 research papers, 16 of which are published, including two scientific monographs. His work has appeared in leading international journals such as Duke Mathematical Journal, Communications in Mathematical Physics, International Mathematics Research Notices, Journal de Mathématiques Pures et Appliquées, Memoirs of the European Mathematical Society, Journal of Differential Equations, Moscow Mathematical Journal, Journal of the London Mathematical Society, Letters in Mathematical Physics, and Springer Lecture Notes in Mathematics. In 2021, he was awarded an individual research grant (2021.01521.CEECIND) for a six-year FCT Researcher position (Junior level), ranking first in Mathematics (second in Mathematics and Computer Science). He also served as Principal Investigator of the exploratory project GENIDE (2022.03702.PTDC), which ran for 24 months and concluded in February 2025. He has delivered more than 45 invited seminars and lectures at international workshops and conferences across 15 countries. He has organized five workshops and conferences—held in Trieste (Italy), Bonn (Germany), Recife (Brazil), and twice in Lisbon (Portugal)—as well as three seminar series, two of which are currently ongoing. His teaching experience includes four courses: undergraduate exercise sessions in Linear Algebra for Engineers in Trieste; two short Ph.D. courses at FCUL; and a Master’s-level course in Geometry at FCUL. He is currently teaching a Ph.D. course at IST. He has supervised one M.Sc. thesis at Birmingham and one at FCUL. As of February 2026, he supervises one Ph.D. student at IST and co-supervises an M.Sc. thesis project at FCUL. He has mentored three postdoctoral researchers and has served—sometimes as chair or vice-chair—on several selection committees for Ph.D. and postdoctoral positions. In 2018, he was awarded the Lutman Prize for Mathematics by SISSA.
