Giordano Cotti obtained his Ph.D. in Geometry and Mathematical Physics at the Scuola Internazionale Superiore di Studi Avanzati (SISSA) in Trieste (Italy) on the 19th of September 2017. He works in the area(s) of Exact Sciences with emphasis on Pure Mathematics (Geometry and Mathematical Physics). He currently is an FCT Researcher at the Grupo de Física Matemática da Universidade de Lisboa (recently moved from Faculdade de Ciências da Universidade de Lisboa to Instituto Superior Técnico). As of January 2025, he holds a tenure-track position (FCT Tenure) as Auxiliary Researcher at the Instituto Superior Técnico (Universidade de Lisboa). Before that, he was a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Max-Planck-Institut für Mathematik in Bonn (Germany), a Postdoctoral Research Associate at the School of Mathematics of the University of Birmingham (UK), being a member of an EPSRC project, and a Visiting Researcher at the Hausdorff Institute for Mathematics in Bonn (Germany). He is the author and coauthor of 16 papers, of which 15 are already published, including one scientific monograph. Among the top journals where he has published are Duke Math. Journal, Int. Math. Res. Not., J. Math. Pures Appl., Memo. Eur. Math. Soc., and J. Differ. Equ., Mosc. Math. J., J. Lond. Math. Soc., Lett. Math. Phys., Springer Lecture Notes in Math. . In 2021 he won a research individual grant (2021.01521.CEECIND) for a 6-year FCT Researcher position (Junior level), ranking 1st in Mathematics (2nd in Mathematics and Computer Science). He was also Principal Investigator of the exploratory project GENIDE (2022.03702.PTDC), which ran for 24 months and ended in February 2025. He has delivered 41 seminars and lectures at international workshops and conferences. He organized five events: one in Trieste (Italy), one in Bonn (Germany), one in Recife (Brazil), and two in Lisboa (Portugal). He also organized three seminar series, two of which are currently ongoing. He has taught four courses: an undergraduate course in Trieste (exercise sessions in Linear Algebra for Engineers), two short Ph.D. courses in Lisbon, and a course in geometry for master students at the Faculdade de Ciências da Universidade de Lisboa. He supervised an MSc Thesis in Birmingham, and a MSc Thesis in Lisboa. As of April 2025, he also supervises a Ph.D. student. He has mentored three postdoctoral researchers and has served—sometimes as chair or vice-chair—on several selection committees for Ph.D. and postdoctoral positions. In 2018, he was awarded the Lutman Prize for Mathematics by SISSA.
