I hold a bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry at the University of Aveiro (UA, 2022) during which I acquired various fundamental concepts and gained practical laboratory experience, which motivated me to enrol a final project focused on the effects of (bio)polymers on the physical and thermal stability of green fluorescent protein under magnetic stirring, with a final grade of 17/20. Due to my strong interest in therapeutic technologies, regenerative medicine, infectiology and drug delivery, I continued my academic path, pursuing a master’s degree in Microbiology (UA, 2024). The dissertation - developed at CICECO and LBM (CESAM) - was focused on the development of alternative strategies for the purification of bioactive pedopeptins from Pedobacter lusitanus NL19, in which I obtained a final grade of 17/20. During my academic journey, I acquired solid theoretical knowledge in molecular and biochemical techniques, complemented by extensive hands-on experience in various laboratory methodologies. These include data analysis using UPLC-ESI-Orbitrap MS, NMR spectroscopy, liquid chromatography techniques (size-exclusion high-performance liquid chromatography and fast protein liquid chromatography), as well as protein extraction via conventional (n-butanol extraction, ammonium sulfate precipitation) and alternative methods (ultrafiltration and precipitation, using less cytotoxic solvents such as polymers and salts). I also gained experience in protein encapsulation using aqueous biphasic systems, SDS-PAGE, UV/Vis spectrophotometry, and Circular Dichroism. Additionally, I have consolidated my training in bioinformatics, acquiring proficiency in tools such as Protein Data Bank, UniProt, MegaX, as well as basic knowledge of R/RStudio, MATLAB, ImageJ, and image editing software (GIMP). In 2025, I joined the SusPharma project as a research fellow at CICECO (UA), in which I worked under the supervision of Prof. João Mano and Dr. Mariana B. Oliveira. In this project, I am currently working on the development of sustainable methodologies for the encapsulation of bioactive compounds. This position allows me to continue developing my skills in biomaterials, bioprocessing, and analytical techniques, while working closely with an interdisciplinary research team. I actively participate in problem-solving situations and approach challenges as opportunities for growth and innovation, always aiming for the best possible outcomes. I am also looking forward to obtain a PhD grant to further broaden my research skills.
