Daniela Rodrigues is a researcher in Biological Anthropology and Public Health whose work focuses on child health trajectories in the digital era, with particular emphasis on screen media use, physical activity, sedentary behaviors, diet, and mental health. She holds a PhD in Anthropology (Biological Anthropology) from the University of Coimbra (2018), funded by an FCT doctoral fellowship, where she investigated socio-ecological determinants of children’s participation in physical activity and their association with obesity. She has been a researcher at the Research Centre for Anthropology and Health (CIAS), University of Coimbra, since 2013, where her work integrates bio-cultural, epidemiological, and life-course approaches to health and well-being. Since 2021, she has held an FCT Individual Scientific Employment contract (CEEC-Junior), under which she coordinates ScreenHealth, a longitudinal cohort study examining early-life screen media trajectories and their impact on children’s health and development (funded by FCT in 2022). Daniela is co-responsible for the Laboratory of Human Population Biology (CIAS) and the Wearable Systems Laboratory (WearSysLab, CISUC), contributing to the integration of biological, behavioral, and digital data in population-based research. She has published in international peer-reviewed journals, contributed to national and international research projects, and actively collaborates with interdisciplinary teams in Portugal and abroad. Her research has been recognized with several awards, including the Maria de Sousa Award (BIAL Foundation & Ordem dos Médicos), the Best Scientific Text – Young Biological Anthropologist, and the Best Applied Project awards from the Portuguese Anthropological Association. Alongside her research, she is engaged in teaching, mentoring, and the supervision of students at different academic levels.
