Luís Pereira is a marine biologist specialized in aquatic ecology and conservation. Graduating from the University of Aveiro (Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees), he dedicated his studies to diadromous fish and invasive species in the Minho and Lima rivers, focusing particularly on the Sea lamprey (Petromyzon marinus), Trout (Salmo trutta), Shads (Alosa alosa ; Alosa fallax) and European eel (Anguilla anguilla) and its parasite Anguillicola crassus. Author of studies on diadromous fish ecology, has published scientific papers as both author and co-author in specialized journals, and contributed as a co-author to the book "Natural Values of the Minho River". More recently conducted research for the SILURUS project (ESAS - IPS), focusing on controlling invasive species in Portuguese rivers. Currently, he is part of the River and Coastal Ecology research group (CIIMAR) involved in projects of ecological monitoring and invasive species control in freshwater and coastal environments. His background includes fieldwork at the Aquamuseu do Rio Minho, where he carried out environmental monitoring and research on aquatic ecosystems. As the leader of the NGO MoLima - Movimento para a Defesa do Rio Lima, he organizes conservation initiatives, environmental education, and community engagement for sustainable aquatic ecosystem stewardship. His work bridges scientific research, environmental management, and public outreach, incorporating collaboration with academic institutions, government bodies, and civil society. Luís actively participates in international workshops and networks aimed at advancing ocean literacy and sustainable management of aquatic resources. Since 2026, he has been a member of OYSTER (Orienting Young ScienTists of EuroMarine), contributing to initiatives that support early-career marine scientists through career development, mentoring, and international networking opportunities.
