I hold a master’s degree in Marine and Atmospheric Sciences from the University of Aveiro, completed in 2022 with a final grade of 16 out of 20. My master's thesis, entitled “Monitoring of Vegetation Productivity in Areas of Higher Susceptibility to Severe Fires in Mainland Portugal”, for which I obtained a classification of 18 out of 20, was awarded a distinction by APMG (Associação Portuguesa da Meteorologia e da Geofísica). In 2023, I was a research fellow at the Portuguese Institute for Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA), where I was tasked with the integration of high-resolution meteorological model outputs in CHIMERE, a chemistry transport model (CTM), to improve its performance, from which a paper was made and is currently under revision. Currently, I am a research fellow at CESAM, where I am utilising LOTOS-EUROS, which has not been previously applied in Portugal, to assess nitrogen deposition. This is a novel topic being explored in the country. As NH3 is an emergent pollutant, it makes the work even more relevant. During this time, I have been a member of the Research Group on Emissions, Modelling, and Climate Change (GEMAC), where I had the opportunity to work on various research projects, including FONDA, EMERGE, and NCP-CAMS (European projects), as well as SMOKESTORM (national project). This year, I had the opportunity to engage in teaching activities in the course Atmospheric Chemistry, where, under the guidance of the course coordinator, I conducted a hands-on practical session focusing on atmospheric deposition. Regarding scientific output and engagement with the scientific community, I presented my recent developments in LOTOS-EUROS at TNO’s “LE Workshop 2025” in Utrecht, The Netherlands, and at ITM24 in Copenhagen, Denmark, where I was awarded a distinction as an Early Career Researcher. Additionally, I presented at the 2024 edition of the “LE Workshop” in the Netherlands and at the “12º Simpósio de Meteorologia e Geofísica da APMG” in Lisbon. Additionally, I was a co-author of another oral presentation at this event, which resulted in a conference paper. I have one published paper: “Holistic evaluation of the environmental impacts of shipping in the sensitive region of Ria de Aveiro”. I have three other papers under review. The first is “Optimizing Air Quality Predictions in Portugal: A Comparative Study of Meteorological Inputs,” which is related to integrating high-resolution meteorological model outputs in CHIMERE. The second is “Investigating the sensitivity of modelled ozone levels in the Mediterranean to dry deposition parameters”, in which several vegetation parameters that are very important to the deposition of several pollutants are changed to accommodate a Mediterranean climate, using LOTOS-EUROS. The third is a review paper about nitrogen dry deposition modelling (“Modelling Nitrogen Dry Deposition: A Systematic Literature Review”), which is very relevant to my current work in the field. Finally, I was part of the Organizing Committee for the Spring School “Ecosystems at Risk – Modelling Nitrogen over Europe,” which took place March 2024 at UAVR and was attended by more than 20 international students.
