In 2019, I completed a bachelor degree in Geological Engineering in Faculdade de Ciências e Tecnologias da Universidade Nova de Lisboa, during which i had the opportunity to work as an intern at eGiamb - Geoenvironmental Consulting, Lda., from June to July of 2019. This internship allowed me to be involved in a project to evaluate soil contamination, in which in situ research work was carried out through bore holes and through the monitoring of piezometer installations, involving the sampling of soils and waters, as well as carrying out accessory field tests. In addition to this component, a report was subsequently written, involving components such as bore hole logs, geographical and geomorphological analysis. In addition to the soil contamination evaluation component, this internship also involved a laboratory phase, in which samples were prepared for testing, through core drilling, while friction angle and uniaxial compressive strength tests were carried out at the Engineering Geology Laboratory of FCT-UNL. Afterwards, I proceeded to complete my Master's degree in Geological and Mining Engineering, from 2019 to 2021, with a Master's thesis developed under the topic of "Sample thickness influence on flexural strength under concentrated load of some Portuguese ornamental stones". During this time, i carried out an internship, as part of the curriculum, at ASSIMAGRA - MINERAL RESOURCES OF PORTUGAL, from September 2020 to January 2021. This internship was based on the development of a statistical publication, related to the exploration and market of mineral resources in Portugal, carried out in conjunction with the ASSIMAGRA team, involving the collection, processing and statistical analysis of data on this sector, as well as the writing and structuring of the report to be published over a period of 4 months. This experience provided an opportunity to engage with the mineral resources sector in Portugal, in a team work environment with a common goal. Later, from February to July 2022, I would once again work together with the team over at ASSIMAGRA in an update to the work done in 2021, regarding the Annual Mineral Resources Statistics report, in a project that saw a larger emphasis on the analysis of the natural stone sector, while bringing all previously analyzed data up to date. As of December of 2022, I started working as a research fellow through a grant given by IST-ID, in the Centro de Recursos Naturais e Ambiente (CERENA), on a project titled "Cladding thickness influence on flexural strength under concentrated load of some carbonated stones", in which i further expand into the work i had previously done for my Master's thesis. This project constists of analyzing and characterizing physical and mechanical properties of limestone samples in order to understand the impact of sample thickness in a stone's flexural strength, measured through the standard scientific methods defined in the European Union, required for marketing cladding slabs, roofing slates and other natural stone products within the European Economic Area.
