Paula Pascoal-Faria is a Researcher at the Centre for Rapid and Sustainable Product Development (CDRSP), a I&D research unit FCT funded, of the Polytechnic of Leiria dedicated to the transformation of Industry through the development and implementation of novel Additive Manufacturing (AM)/three/four-dimensional (3D/4D) printing technology. She is a Lecturer of the Mathematics Department at the School for Technology and Management of the Polytechnic of Leiria. Master of Science in Pure Mathematics (Numerical Analysis and Computational Mathematics) and with a PhD in Biophysics and Biomedical Engineering by the University of Lisbon. She is the Head of the R&D Computational and Mathematical Methods Research Team at the CDRSP. She has co-edited 2 books, authored and co-authored more than 50 papers published international journals, international conferences and book chapters. She is the Member of the Editorial Board in several international peer-review journals and was received already two science awards. She is the chairman and co-chairman, member of the scientific and organizing committee of different international events, workshops and congresses. She also coordinates and granted national and international research projects either with Academia and Industry (National Innovation Agency, Foundation for Science and Technology, European I&D Projects). Additionally, she is the supervisor/co-supervisor of several master, PhD and Pos-Doc students working on Mathematical Modeling applied either on Biomedical and Industrial applications. She has also acted as a MSc and PhD Examiner. She was recently part of the direction board of OPEN – Business Specific Opportunities which is a non-profit private institution, created in November 2002 for the promotion of innovation and employment through several different actions held in Marinha Grande, Portugal and mentor of an entrepreneurship Programme called MATERIALIZA that is now on its 3rd edition that intends to transform business technological ideas into successful startups companies. She was recently member of the Director Board and the General Council of the Portuguese Mathematics Society. She collaborates with the National Innovation Agency (ANI) and with the European Comission as an evaluator of R&D Projects. Her research activity and interests focuses mostly on numerical analysis applied to biomedical engineering and manufacturing/bio-manufacturing engineering as well as on direct digital manufacturing while using metals, polymers and ceramics. Additionally, she focuses her studies on the application of electrical and electromagnetic stimulation on different tissue engineering applications.
