António Martins Pereira is an Army Lieutenant-general out of active duty. He attended high school at the Salesian School in Oporto and graduated in Military Sciences, Infantry Course from the Military Academy in 1984. He attended the Staff Course (1993/94) and the Flag Officer Promotion Course (2010/11) in Higher Education Military Institutes. As junior Officer had military experience as trainer and as commander in several military units. As senior officer (Major to Colonel) served as commander and as staff adviser at political level, in the Office of Portuguese Minister of Defence (MoD) and at Strategic Headquarters (HQ). He was unrolled in several posts in Higher Education Military Institutes, where he lectured Tactics, Strategy, and International Relations (IR) subject matters. He was deployed in Angola, Belgium, Ethiopia and Mozambique as trainer or military adviser for Heads of Diplomatic Delegations (Portuguese at NATO HQ in Brussels and at the European Union (EU) Delegation to African Union in Addis-Abeba). He got leadership expertise as practitioner in several posts of command, namely, Special Operations Centre Commander, Special Operations Component Commander, Land Forces Commander, and Military University Institute (IUM) Commander. As IUM commander, he was member of Council Rectors of Portuguese Universities, from March 2022 to November 2023. As Army Flag Officer he was appointed to high level posts as Head of Office of MoD and Deputy for Planning and Resources at the Armed Forces General Staff, where he got experience in strategic planning, strategic management, and high administration matters. He is post-graduated in IR and has a master´s degree in IR and European Studies from Évora University. He is a PhD Candidate in IR, at Faculty of Human and Social Sciences in Nova University. He is member of the Geography Society of Lisbon in the IR Commission.
