My name is Filipa Nunes Nogueira, I am a mathematician by training and passionate about solving complex problems in my professional life, with curiosity and analytical thinking. My research life as a mathematician has trained me to be flexible with new problems and open to novel strategies. I have a degree in Mathematics Education (5 years) from the University of Aveiro (Portugal). During this degree, I developed my taste for more theoretical and abstract mathematics. Nevertheless, I decided to take up a challenge and dedicate myself to applied mathematics by completing the master's degree in Mathematics and Applications, specializing in Computer Science at the University of Aveiro, and by completing a Ph.D. in Applied Mathematics at the University of Porto (Portugal). It was precisely during my career as a Ph.D. student that my interest in the application of mathematics in the biomedical area was born. In this sense, I decided to continue my postdoctoral research in the biomedical field. In October 2014 I started working in epidemiology and pandemics control where I applied techniques of Optimal Control and Model Predictive Control. I worked with positive systems in the framework of control of the depth of anesthesia. I developed a controller that was used for the automatic administration of drugs to real patients during surgical procedures. Nowadays I am a researcher at the University of Minho, Braga, Portugal. My research focus is on modeling and control systems related to wastewater treatment, water quality, irrigation, and fertilization. I have experience as a teacher in the field of mathematics and the field of computer science. As a teacher, I tested my sense of responsibility, professionalism, and facility of sacrifice. The taste for oral expression, good communication, teamwork, and dynamism came from various extra-curricular activities such as climbing, theatre, dance, taekwondo, and organizing social and environmental events.
