Maria Joana Faustino Pinheiro

Maria Joana Faustino Pinheiro completed the Degree in Biochemistry in 2017 and the Master in Biotechnology in 2019. The Master's thesis focused on the synthesis of new molecules with anti-Candida activity and functionalization of coatings in order to prevent the colonization of surfaces and formation of biofilms. In addition, the resistance mechanisms of Candida albicans isolates were explored, as well as the beginning of the genetic characterization of an environmental isolate of Candida glabrata. She published 2 articles in journals, presented 2 posters at national events and participated in the organization of 3 events. After completing her master's degree, she participated in the research project funded by FCT LactoCan as a research fellow at the Institute of Bioengineering and Biosciences of Instituto Superior Técnico. Currently, she is undertaking a PhD program at the Institute of Bioengineering and Biosciences of Instituto Superior Técnico.
