I hold a Bachelor's degree in Biochemistry from the University of Córdoba, Spain (2013-2017), where I conducted my dissertation work at the Departamento de Biología Celular, Fisiología e Inmunología de la Universidad de Córdoba. In 2018 started a Master's degree in Molecular, Cellular, and Genetic Biology at the University of Valencia, Spain, during which I gained hands-on experience in advanced molecular genetics at the Genetics department of the Instituto de Investigación Sanitaria (Scientific Reports, 2020). Then, I pursued my PhD studies (2019-2024) in the Centro de Investigación Príncipe Felipe (CIPF) at the Neuronal and Tissular Regeneration Lab, headed by Dr. Victoria Moreno Manzano, in the field of CNS injury and regeneration, achieving the highest distinction of cum laude. I have also undertaken two international research stays at the University of Copenhagen (2 months, 2017) and Imperial College London in Restorative Neuroscience section of the Brain Science department (3 months, 2021). Specifically, during my PhD I focused on unveiling new insights into the transcriptional changes that occur along spinal cord injury (SCI) progression and after neural progenitor cell transplantation with a special emphasis on cAMP signalling (Cellular and Molecular Life Science, 2022). Next, I implemented a new optogenetic strategy for in vivo cAMP manipulation in corticospinal neurons and studied its effect over the functional recovery of rats after suffering a spinal cord injury, which allowed me to unveil a cortical rerouting pathway through the serotonergic descending tract (Nature Communications 2025). During my PhD project I have acquired a specialized profile in neuroscience research, gaining comprehensive experience in a wide range of experimental techniques and methodologies. My expertise spans rodent models of neurodegeneration, including behavioural testing, motor and sensory tasks to assess functionality (Molecular Therapy 2024). I also have experience in stem cell transplantation, neural tracing and the application of protocols for neuronal modulation, histological processing of brain and spinal cord samples, molecular biology techniques and primary cell culture of cortical neurons and neural progenitor cells, among others (Biomaterials, 2021; Biomedicines, 2022; IEEE Trans Biomed Circuits Syst. 2022). I also gained experience in the design and implementation of genetically encoded approaches based on adenoviral and lentiviral vectors for controlled gene delivery (International Journal of Molecular Sciences, 2020). More importantly, my PhD training equipped me with in-depth knowledge of spinal cord injury pathophysiology, encompassing multifaceted processes ranging from neuroinflammation, vascular and blood-brain-barrier disruption, cell death, scar formation, cell-to-cell communication, Wallerian degeneration, and neural plasticity. This conceptual enrichment represents the most valuable foundation for my future professional development as an SCI-focused researcher. Additionally, I have completed five professional specialization courses that advanced my professional profile. In September 2024, I joined the Novel Approaches in Nervous System Regenerative Medicine lab at the ICVS (Braga, Portugal) led by Dr. Silva and Dr. Salgado, to continue my research in spinal cord injury. Transitioning to this lab marked a new stage in my career, allowing me to expand my expertise towards the use of stem cell secretome as a treatment for SCI and to complement my technical expertise towards human ASC culture, secretome production and handling, extracellular vesicle isolation and manipulation. So far, I have published 9 peer-reviewed articles, with my first-author publications having and average impact factor of 12.45 and my co-authored publications of 7,5.
