I graduated in Biology (4 curricular years), in 2008, and completed my Master's degree in Toxicology and Ecotoxicology, in 2009, at the University of Aveiro (UA). The excellence of my academic path was recognized by the endowment of two awards of merit, offered to the best overall grade, by the Rector of the UA, concerning the school years of 2007/2008 and 2008/2009. In December 2013, I completed my PhD degree at Biology Department & CESAM, UA in collaboration with Aarhus University, Denmark (financially supported by a 4-year mix FCT grant SFRH/BD/63261/2009). I was recently awarded a prestigious 6-year work contract from the competitive call FCT-CEEC (2021.02867.CEECIND). Currently, I am an Assistant Researcher at the Department of Biology and CESAM (Centre for Environmental and Marine Studies), University of Aveiro. Since my MsC degree, and over my PhD and post-doctoral experiences, I conducted research in soil ecotoxicology, focusing on the ecotoxicity of nanomaterials (NMs) and toxicogenomics. I have assessed the effects of NMs based on standard guideless (endpoints: survival and reproduction), but most of my research was focused on sub-organismal (mechanistic) endpoints, such as oxidative stress biomarkers and gene expression studies, using the soil model Enchytraeus crypticus (Oligochaeta). These gave me a strong background in molecular biology techniques (qPCR and microarrays) and data analysis. Simultaneously, I have been applying several NMs (physicochemical) characterization techniques such as dynamic light scattering, zeta potential, UV-VIS, and infra-red spectra measurements. I participated in 9 research projects (6 funded by FCT and 3 European projects), performing tasks related to toxicity tests, gene expression analysis, and training of students and younger researchers. Currently, I have an h-index of 18 and 45 publications in international peer-reviewed journals with more than 630 citations (without self-citations). In my professional activities, I interacted with 53 collaborators (co-authorship of scientific papers). I attended national and international conferences where I did 11 oral communications (2 by invitation) and presented 13 posters. I was co-chair of the session Environmental OMICs: high-throughput strategies to decipher mechanisms of response to stressors at the 25th SETAC Europe Annual Meeting (2014). I was a lecturer (2012-2014) in the workshop (SETAC Summer School course) on the topic of (eco)toxicogenomics. I am engaged in dissemination activities to the general public (e.g. Academia de Verão-UA and school visits). I have been a guest editor for Toxics [ ISSN 2305-6304; https://www.mdpi.com/journal/toxics], of the Special Issue on ¿Assessment of the (Eco)Toxicity of Nanomaterials¿ (currently open: https://www.mdpi.com/journal/toxics/special_issues/Assessment_Toxicity_Nanomaterials), which had 11 papers published. My main fields of research are nanotoxicology, ecotoxicogenomics, and soil ecotoxicology (Earth and Environmental Sciences).
