Inês Leal (IL) holds a BSc in Biology from FCUP (2020) and a MSc in Molecular and Microbial Biology from the University of Algarve - Faculty of Science and Technology (2022). She is currently a 2nd year PhD student in Environmental Science and Technology at FCUP. Her work focuses on bioremediation and nature-based solutions for the removal of contaminants of emerging concern from the effluents of wastewater treatment plants. IL has gained wide experience in microbiology, molecular biology, spectroscopy techniques, microplastic, heavy metal and biotoxin analysis, and biochemistry. She has one book chapter published in the scope of health risks associated with the consumption of bivalves (2024) and 9 poster presentations in national and international conferences. IL is part of the PhD students Committee of CIIMAR, being actively involved in the organization of the national Blue Think Conference (BTC- 2026). She has strong skills in science communication and outreach activities, students’ supervision and international collaborations, being involved in the creation of a microbiology lab in a partner institution between 2023-2024.
