I have graduated in Aquatic Sciences in the University of Porto, 2010. I then acquired my master degree in marine nutrition in the University of Bergen, Norway, in a collaboration with the Institute of Marine Research and the National Institute of Nutrition and Seafood Research, in 2012. I was granted a PhD scholarship (FCT, SFRH/BD/89457/2012). My PhD studies were focused on functional amino acids in aquafeeds and were carried out in CIIMAR and the Faculty of Sciences (University of Porto,) from 2013 to 2017. During this time, I had the opportunity to work with several research groups and in different international laboratories. I applied and was granted an AquaExcel project funding as the principal investigator, and went to the Institute of Aquaculture Torre de la Sal (IATS-CSIC) where my first arginine study was carried out, rendering a scientific publication in an open access journal. I was also involved in a DAAD-FCT project with Berlim, Germany, in which I had the opportunity to work at the Leibniz-Institute of Freshwater Ecology and Inland Fisheries, and from which collaboration 2 scientific papers were published. As part of my PhD study plan, I went to the Autonomous University of Barcelona to perform molecular biology analyses. During this time I enrolled in the Young Scientist Awards 2015 (Alltech) and was awarded the 1st place at the regional phase (Europe/Africa/Russia). I have been working as a post-doc researcher at CIIMAR, being involved in several projects, as listed in the appropriate section. I have published 25 scientific papers in high impact factor, and open access journals. Among them, I was the co-author of two review papers. I have attended 10 international and 6 national scientific meetings, in which I have 26 oral presentations (11 as the presenter). I am an auxiliary invited professor at the School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences, from the University of Porto, teaching two disciplines in the framework of a bachelor and a master degree programme. I have experience in fish in vivo experiments, haematology, humoral immune parameter analysis, molecular biology, microbiology and primary cell culture techniques. My main interest is to develop functional diets to improve fish health in aquaculture, by studying amino acids and their immune-related benefits. Specifically, I am mostly interested in tryptophan and its immunomodulatory role in the teleost fish.
