Joana Abreu Silva holds a BSc degree in Biochemistry, Faculty of Sciences (2014) and a MSc degree in Public Health, Faculty of Medicine (2017) from the University of Porto, Portugal. As a Research Fellow in HEPeCONTROL project - Hepatitis E virus epidemiology, safety and control (EEA Grants 2009–2014, 60DT2) and FLEXPOL - Antimicrobial FLEXible POLymers for its use in hospital environments (H2020-NMBP-PILOTS-2016 721062), Joana developed technical and scientific skills on the research areas of molecular epidemiology, zoonotic pathogens and viral, bacterial infections in hospital settings. Currently, she is a PhD candidate in Biotechnology, Faculty of Biotechnology-UCP Porto under FCT-funded studentships (SFRH/BD/148411/2019). Abreu-Silva, J. scientific interests have evolved towards new areas of expertise - Host-Pathogen interactions\ Comparative genomics and Transcriptomics - to unveil and ultimately predict the potential of environmental antibiotic resistant bacteria to cause opportunistic infections in humans.
