Oscar González-Pelayo, Ph.D. in Soil Science (2011). He has an MSc degree in Desertification and Pedagogic specialization course besides a bachelor's in Biology from the University of Valencia, Spain. In the last 23 years has been involved in 22 national and international EU projects as a researcher in (i) Desertification Research Center, (ii) University of Valencia (Spain), (iii) MED-CHANGE-University of Évora, Portugal & (iv) CESAM (Centro de Estudos do Ambiente e do Mar-Universidade de Aveiro, Portugal). His research is developed on soil genesis, soil erosion/hydrology, and soil quality indicators in forest and agricultural lands, post-wildfire on/off-site effects and their mitigation, and desertification processes. His Ph.D. was developed at the Univ. Valencia, Desertification Research Centre (Spain) and ESAC (Portugal) on fire effects on soil properties. His international post-doc between Univ. Aveiro and Univ. Valencia was focused on desertification issues and soil threats as (i) agricultural soil management and (ii) soil erosion linked to (wild- and prescribed-)fires. His works have resulted in 51 publications, 32 of which were in international peer-reviewed journals across different disciplines (Environmental Science, Earth, and Planetary Sciences, Agricultural and Biological Science, Social Sciences, Chemical Engineering, Engineering). He shared research with 147 co-authors which resulted in a Scopus H-index of 18. He has authored/co-authored 2 book chapters and 1 book review, 28 papers in conference proceedings, and over 60 communications at international conferences. He supervised 2 Ph.D. students and 3 MSc theses and mentored 9 MSc students. He also has been an international Ph.D. jury member at Wageningen Univ. (The Netherlands). He is a member of organizing and scientific committees of 3 international conferences. He has received two scientific awards and is also a reviewer for 12 Q1 international journals.
