Verónica Conte

Verónica Conte is a color researcher, artist and landscape architect. She is an effective researcher at CIAUD – Research Centre for Architecture, Urbanism and Design, Lisbon School of Architecture and is collaborator at CEC - Center for Comparative Studies / THELEME – Interart and Intermedia Studies Research Group / P'ARTE, School of Arts and Humanities (University of Lisbon). Her work is trans-disciplinary in the way she crosses and feeds the several domains of her scientific and artistic research, mainly focused on colour, people, emotions and public space, or landscape. Chairman of the Board of the Portuguese Color Association (2019-2021). Author of the book A Cor em Acção, 2019; and "O meu bairro ponto por ponto. Aucoconstrução do vestir e do habitar na Vertente Sul de Odivelas", 2019. After researching the colours of Buenos Aires, in Palermo Viejo and La Boca districts, (a collaboration with Grupo Argentino del Color, within the scope of the European Volunteer Service, 2009) and studying collective painting actions in residential facades Verónica consolidated her research through the participatory action LiveColour Colourinhabiting. In LiveColour the inhabitants of a place are challenged to produce a personal image in each facade, thus achieving, through the mosaic of interventions, a unique collective image. The action was held in the village of São Cristóvão (2011-2012) and replicated in Ruinha, historic center of Montemor-o-Novo (2015). A post-doctoral study “Co-design in public space: Color as a strategy for the development of culture and local sustainability” (FA-UL, 2020); and a PhD in Design "Co-Design of participatory actions in the painting of residential facades: expression of individual and collective identities in the construction of public space" (2014) (FA-UL and FADU-UBA, support by individual FCT grant), also emerged from the action-research LiveColour Colourinhabiting. Verónica has been a member of scientific committee in Congresses, belonging to editorial committee including the magazine AREA - agenda de reflexión en arquitectura, diseño y urbanismo of Universidad de Buenos Aires and has been conducting academic communications since 2004. Master in Color in Architecture (2003-2006) FA-UTL. Degree in Landscape Architecture (2002) ISA-UTL. Attended a postgraduate degree in Visual Arts at Maumaus, Lisbon (2006). Also carried out intermedia arts projects, instalations performances, scenography and image (2004-07) and co-created with Verónica Almeida ArtLAB - artistic projects in the Landscape (2005). More recently her project, as an independent researcher, the "Atlas of colour-emotion" is taking its steps under the scope of the emotional design.
