Pedro Félix is the coordinator of the Installing Team of the National Sound Archive, a structure created by the Portuguese Government and directly supervised by the Minister of Culture and the Minister of Science, Technology and Higher Education (http://arquivonacionaldosom.gov.pt) He is a member of the research centres Instituto de Etnomusicologia (since 1997) and Institute of Contemporary History (since 2014), both from Universidade Nova de Lisboa, and collaborated with the Fado Museum (since 2005). He was part of the team responsible for the preparation of the Fado proposal to UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage (2005-2011, coordinating fieldwork and the inventory of the phonographic heritage associated with Fado). Afterwards, he coordinated the program of digitization of the phonographic collection of the Fado Museum and curated exhibitions for the institution. He wrote on digitizing workflows and know-how acquired through those projects. He has participated in the organization of several private sound archives and has collaborated with public and private institutions organizing phonographic collections. He has done work of recording, digitizing, restoring and mastering audio from historical carriers. He conceived and coordinated the European project HeritaMus (http://heritamus.fcsh.unl.pt/, 2015-2018), a digital tool for collaborative curation of material (phonographic) and immaterial (musical knowledge and practices) heritage. His research topics are: sound archives, sound technology, music industries, and sound heritage, but also musical groups in Portugal, scientific methodology and techniques in the humanities and in the field of Science and Technology Studies. All his research was published in thesis, books, chapters and papers in scientific journals (on musical production contexts and historical phonograms; processes of patrimonilization and treatment of sound documents on historical carriers; on musical practices in the context of XXI century’ music industries). He was part of the coordination team of the Encyclopedia of Music in Portugal in the 20th century for which he wrote dozens of entries. His digitization and restoration of sound documents have been published in several critical reissues of historical recordings. He was a teacher at Faculty of Social and Human Sciences - UNL in the field of Ethnographic methods, at the Musicology department; designed and co-coordinated the Post-graduation on Popular Music Studies and a seminar on Music in Portugal in the XXth century. He was the founder of Matéria do Som, a scientific association for the study and preservation of sound heritage in Portugal. He is an active member at IASA where he currently serves as chair of Ambassadors Committee and vice-chair of Discography Committee. Currently serves as Secretary-General of IASA.
