Nelson deMatos holds a PhD in Tourism (2015) and subsequently completed another PhD in Marketing and Strategy (2022). Currently holding the position of Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Economics (FEUAlg), University of Algarve. He is also an integrated member of the Center for Research in Tourism, Sustainability, and Wellbeing (CinTurs) working in the Tourism and Hospitality Management research area. Presently, he occupies several management roles at the Faculty of Economics, such as, Director of the International Master in Management, while being a member of the board of directors for the Masters in Marketing Management; Management of Tourist Organizations; and Management, Entrepreneurship, and Innovation. Until recently, he held the position of Deputy Director of the 1st cycle course in Tourism at the School of Management, Hospitality, and Tourism, from the University of Algarve. He has accumulated 20 years of combined academic and professional experience in the Tourism, Hospitality, and Marketing fields. Throughout his career, he has published 33 articles, 20 book chapters, and authored 5 books (of which 3 as co-editor). He supervised more than 13 PhD students (including international research stays and national candidates) and is currently supervising 6 others. Regarding master's research projects (dissertation, project and internship report), he has (co)supervised with success 31 student so far and was also the supervisor of 48 undergraduate internships in the tourism industry. Currently, he is coordinating 11 more master students' research projects. Additionally, he has served as a jury member for the public defense of PhD and Master theses on 61 occasions. Over the past years, he has been actively engaged in consultancy and research projects, 16 in total, funded by the private and public (e.g., Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia - FCT) sector. He received so far two awards: in 2018, he received a merit scholarship from the University of Minho for achieving the highest overall average in the PhD curricular program in Marketing and Strategy. In 2023, he was honored as a co-author of the Best Paper Award at the XXXII Luso-Spanish Scientific Management Conference held in Aveiro. Since 2015, he contributes as a member of the Editorial and Review boards of indexed journals.
