Muriel is currently the head of the R&D unit of Low Carbon and Resource Efficiency at Instituto da Soldadura e Qualidade (ISQ), Scientific Project Coordinator of Horizon 2020, expert for the European Commission as well as a PhD supervisor for the Sustainable Energy Systems Programme (FCT – Instituto Superior Técnico) and Engineering and Industrial Management Programme (Universidade Lusíada). Over the years she has been actively involved in Research and Development in field of Sustainability. This has been assured through the securing of funding and consequently collaboration in several R&D projects (H2020, LIFE, ESA, Interreg, Portugal2020, FCT, etc.), while promoting industrial collaborations. M. Iten’s curriculum also includes lecturing in Higher Education in the fields of Fluid Mechanics, Thermodynamics and Refrigeration, Construction Technology and Building Science modules. Her interests, in particular, are related to experimental and numerical approaches for: - Thermal Energy Storage (passive and active systems) for building and industrial applications; - Waste heat recovery (thermodynamic cycles, process integration and industrial symbiosis); - Thermal processes optimisation; - Integration of clean energy sources into industrial thermal processes: Solar thermal energy; geothermal energy; clean fuels; - Advanced thermal technologies (ground source heat pumps, combined heat and power, etc.).
