Raquel L. Pereira is a PhD student and researcher at the International Iberian Nanotechnology Laboratory (INL) and the Life and Health Sciences Research Institute (ICVS). Her work focuses on the development of innovative biomedical tools, including biosensors and drug-delivery platforms. From 2022 to 2023, Raquel worked as a Research Fellow at the Laboratory for Research and Innovation in Sensors and Engineering (LabRISE) in Porto, Portugal. During this time, she contributed to projects such as 2IQBIONEURO, which aimed to develop biosensors for aging-related diseases, and SmartBioPatch, which focused on monitoring inflammation in diabetic foot ulcers. In 2023, Raquel joined INL to work on the Goldmine industrial project, where [he/she/they] developed bacteriophage cocktail-loaded dissolving microneedles for diabetic wound applications. Between 2024 and 2025, she was involved in a Research to Prevent Blindness project, contributing to the preclinical evaluation of bacteriophages for the treatment of bacterial keratitis. In 2024, Raquel began a PhD in Biomedicine and Health Sciences at the University of Minho. The PhD project, conducted in collaboration with INL and the Institute of Microelectronics of Barcelona, aims to develop microneedle-based bacteria biosensing platforms to detect infections in chronic wounds. Raquel's research has been supported by competitive fellowships, and [he/she/they] has authored several peer-reviewed publications in reputable journals. She has also gained international research experience through an ERASMUS+ internship at the University of Ghent in Belgium and a research exchange at Massachusetts Eye and Ear, a Harvard Medical School affiliate in the United States. Raquel is passionate about advancing healthcare technologies and remains eager to learn, collaborate, and contribute to impactful projects in the biomedical field.
