Verónica Bastos is a Researcher at CESAM, University of Aveiro since 2019. Works in the area of Biological Sciences, Cell Biology. Currently she is working on the field of Plastics and Bioplastics Toxicity to Human Health under her FCT CEEC Individual contract. CV SUMMARY: Verónica obtained her PhD in Biology & Cell Biology at the University if Aveiro in 2016, integrating the FCT project NanoBio (PTDC/SAUTOX/120953/2010) as a PhD student responsible for cyto/genotoxicity assessment of different coated AgNPs. During her phD Verónica consolidated her knowledge by doing an internship with Dr. Helionor Jonhston and Dr. David Brown of the Nanosafety research group at Heriot-Watt university UK, working with Nanomaterials toxicity. Verónica hold a research collaborator position at Porto Faculty of sciences (FCUP)/REQUIMTE in 2017, and in 2018 a Pos-Doc Fellowship at Porto Faculty of Pharmacy FFUP to work with anti-inflammatory potential of phycompounds. From 2019-2021 Verónica had a research contract under the FCT project HOTsPOT (POCI-01-0145-FEDER-031794) at CESAM, UA that integrates preparation and characterization of Upconversion Nanoparticles for melanoma therapy studying their in vitro cyto and genotoxic effects. In this scope she integrated 3 COST action working groups: CA17140 Nano2Clinic: Cancer Nanomedicine "Preclinical studies of nanodrugs"; CA17104 STRATAGEM "Synthesis and nanodelivery strategies" and "preclinical models of MDR tumors". She is also member of the COST CA19144 - European Venom Network (EUVEN) and more recently she integrated the COST action CA20101 "Priority" within the scope of plastics toxicity, one of her main research interests currently. Verónica has 27 publications, 1 international book chapter and 1 academic book. She has 534 citations with h-index 12 in Scopus (Scopus ID: 56829247300) and 832 citations with h-index 13 in Google Schoolar. Verónica integrated 2 editorial boards of international Journals "Toxics" (https://www.mdpi.com/journal/toxics) and "Journal of Cellular Toxicology and Cell Biology" (https://norcaloa.com/index.php?/CTCB/editorial-board/4); revised 36 international manuscripts (publons 1625329); and participated in organizing CA15107 meeting and other international training courses. Verónica has supervised 15 students as follow: main supervisor of 3 graduated students and 2 MSc students; and co-supervisor of 4 graduation students and 6 MSc students. Verónica participated in 7 academic juris: 2 PhD (1 as main opponent), 2MSc and 3BSc. She was invited to international and national oral communications: Online webinar of "Novel Advanced Nanomaterials for Biological Applications"; COST Action 17104 (STRATAGEM) meeting; 1st Conference of Cost action CA17140 "NANO2CLINIC"(financed); TOXECO conference, Biology Department, University of Aveiro; and Invited lectures at SODA-FC4130 and B.Sc/M.Sc courses at FCUP, University of Porto. Verónica's main scientific expertise/areas of activity are: In vitro cell culture; Cytotoxicity; Genotoxicity; Human Health; Cancer Therapy; Nanobiomedicine; Nanotoxicology; Biocompatibility, Anti-inflammatory and antioxidant potential of newly isolated/synthesized compounds.
