Sílvia Catarina Pereira Coelho

Sílvia Coelho holds a PhD in Environmental Sciences and Engineering from the University of Aveiro (2023), with the theme "Assessment of air quality in cities in climate change scenarios: analysis of the contribution of sources". She also has a degree in Meteorology, Oceanography and Geophysics (2012) and a Master's in Meteorology and Physical Oceanography (2015) from the same university. In the last 5 years her research was carried out in the research Group of Emissions, Modelling and Climate Change (GEMAC), one of the labs of the Centre for Environmental and Marine Studies (CESAM) Associate Laboratory, at the University of Aveiro. At GEMAC she had the opportunity to participate in 5 European research projects - ClairCity, UNaLAB, HERA, DISTENDER, ISMED-CLIM - and in 4 national research projects - FUTURAR, MoST, FIRESMOKE, and BigAir. In these projects, her main activities were focused on the application of meteorological (WRF) and air quality (CAMx) modelling tools, at regional and urban scales, for the assessment of climate change impacts on air quality, as well as the health impact assessment from human exposure to air pollution. These works have already led to the co-authoring of 20 publications in peer review journals and 5 publications in proceedings of international conferences with referee, and thus contributing to advance the scientific knowledge on air pollution analysis to better manage air quality and adapt to climate change in the future. Her research work also led her to collaborate with 2 international scientific networks. In 2019 she joined the Mediterranean Experts on Climate and environmental Change (MedECC) network, which was recognized through the award of the 2020 North-South Prize from the Council of Europe. Since 2020 she has been collaborating with the Source Apportionment crosscutting activity of the Forum for Air quality Modeling (FAIRMODE). In the last 5 years, she also participated in 6 consultancy services, mostly related to the preparation of municipal and intermunicipal plans for adaptation to climate change, which resulted in the production of 10 technical reports. Dissemination activities have also been part of her work for the last 5 years, with 6 communications (oral and poster) in international scientific conferences, and the organization/collaboration in 9 dissemination activities for stakeholders and general public. It should be also highlight that, as recognition of the scientific quality, structure, and organization of their PhD work, she received the best pitch award at the Research Summit 2021, and an honourable mention at the Research Summit 2020, events organized by the University of Aveiro.
