Flávia Vieira has a BSc in Biochemistry and Graduation in Pharmacy. She has a multidisciplinary profile and technical background. During 5 years, she worked as main pharmaceutical technician. In 2007, she came to Portugal and made her PhD (2014) in chemistry area, which had University of Aveiro (UA) as the host institution. She was a postdoctoral financial approval to develop research plan in Path group (a research group from UA that is part of the CICECO-Aveiro Institute of Materials. In Path-CICECO-UA, she developed a new-patented technological platform to process microalgae according blue-biorefinery concept (2014-2017). After this postdoctoral plan, she had the opportunity to know the School of Design, Management and Production Technologies Northern Aveiro (ESAN-UA). ESAN-UA is the most recent organic unit in UA. The school promotes the transfer of knowledge and technology to society in close interaction with the surrounding community. She had identified with this ESAN scope and worked in line with it. Her first research plan in ESAN-UA was TT@ESAN project- ESAN Basic Technology Transfer Unit (COMPETE2020) where she developed new approaches to produce cork-polymer-composites (CPC) in starch-based matrix. These CPC were developed inside the technology transfer concept as prototype model. Today, she belongs, as post-doctoral, to the NANOSIM-3D project (COMPETE2020-2019-now). This project is related with novel composite for plastic industry development. NANOSIM-3D is seeking to give a full and rigorous response to ONU 2030 Agenda challenges, through strategies as the development of new nanocomposites materials based in thermoplastic matrixes. One of the NANOSIM-3D goals (which she is involved) is develop a new thermoplastic formulations incorporating nanoparticles directed towards the global market and for a wide range of client industries (e.g., mobility, packaging, houseware, etc.). The biopolymers, biomass compounds and their characterization and applications to development bio-derived new materials were transversal topics during all her career. She has skills in different types of techniques and equipment. Morphological techniques as scanning electron microscopy, optical microscopy, direct and indirect sample preparation methods; vibrational spectroscopies: infrared and mass; mechanical tests: hardness, flexural strength, tension and compression, Young's modulus; thermal analysis: differential thermal analysis and thermal gravimetric analysis, differential scanning calorimetry, fluidity index and all techniques to ensure the bioactive compound (including biopolymers) quality of the control. The focus of her career, as researcher, is to bridge her research from the academic environment to industry. In this sense, Flávia Vieira using processing technologies frequently found in plastic industry, namely, solvent casting, melt-mixing, extrusion, blown extrusion, molding injection, hot-pressing, thermoforming, and 3D printing. Today, she desire focus her skills and scientific knowledge towards challenging researches that could easily bridge with industries, special to change fossil-based material for sustainable, ecofriendlly, bio-based and biodegradable novel materials . In the last year, she wrote two projects for National Agency of Inovation in the bioplastic area. Both of them were aproved, and in the next three years, she will develpment biobased and biological formulations for thermoplastic sector, including close engaging relationship with national industries such as United Biopolymers; United Resins; Navigator Company Simoldes Plásticos and Indutan- Comércio e Industria de Peles. Up to now, its research gave rise to 6 scientific peer reviewed papers ( have 2 more under way); 2 book-chapters, 7 oral and 24 poster communications at international/national conferences.
