Kais Iben Nassar (https://orcid.org/0000-0002-1917-4399) holds a PhD in Physics of Condensed Materials, completed in 2022 through a joint program between the University of Aveiro (Portugal) and the University of Sfax (Tunisia), graduating with highest honors. He also holds a Master’s degree in Condensed Matter Physics (2018) and a Fundamental License in Physics-Chemistry (2016) from the University of Sfax. Kais is an active researcher in Physics, Chemistry, and Materials Science, with 40 published articles and 10 conference presentations. He is a member of the COST Action CA22123 European Materials Acceleration Center for Energy (EU-MACE) and he is a Guest Editor for the journal Crystals. He has reviewed scientific papers for several international journals, including RSC Advances, European Physical Journal Plus, Ceramics International, and Journal of Sol-Gel Science and Technology. His research background includes international academic exchanges such as at Chemnitz University of Technology (Germany) in 2019 and two Erasmus internships at the University of Aveiro in 2020 and 2021. After his PhD, he completed a postdoctoral fellowship at CICECO – Aveiro Institute of Materials, where he focused on computational chemistry, DFT simulations of 2D materials (MXenes), surface reactions, and machine-learning approaches for catalyst discovery. Having completed his postdoctoral work, Kais is currently a researcher in the Department of Physics, where his work focuses on sensor devices and their technological applications. His current research includes the development of sensor systems for industrial and environmental monitoring, fabrication of electronic tongues using advanced materials, and application of sensor arrays for food-quality control, freshness monitoring, and detection of contamination. His expertise covers Condensed Matter Physics, nanomaterials, perovskite ceramics, structural and electrical characterization, 2D materials, machine learning, and impedance spectroscopy. Driven by a passion for innovation, he is committed to advancing sensor technologies for applications in energy, electronics, food safety, and environmental analysis.
