Isabel Benta Oliveira holds a BsC in Biology, MSc in Toxicology and Ecotoxicology, and PhD in Biology with specialisation in Ecotoxicology and Environmental Biology from the University of Aveiro. Her research focused on the effects of stressors (mainly pollutants) on marine biota. During her PhD she developed specific skills to assess the PBT (persistence, bioaccumulation and toxicity) criteria of emerging antifouling biocides in order to understand their Ecological Risk. It involved several research stays at the Swiss Federal Institute of Aquatic Science and Technology (Duebendorf, 2012-2015), the Norwegian Institute for Water Research (Oslo, 2011-2012) and the Estación de Ciencias Mariñas de Toralla (Vigo, 2012). After her PhD, she applied and extended her expertise in other areas such as biomonitoring, aquaculture, ocean acidification and warming and reprotoxic effects of chemicals in the marine environment. IB Oliveira is currently a Junior Researcher at the Blue Biotechnology and Ecotoxicology group of CIIMAR, a position granted by FCT under the scope of the Scientific Employment Stimulus (https://doi.org/10.54499/CEECIND/01368/2018/CP1574/CT0005). Her objective is to apply her knowledge into the Ecological Risk Assessment of promising bioactive natural substances. In her professional activities IB Oliveira has been involved in 9 research projects (one SEED project from CIIMAR as PI), collaborating with more than 85 colleagues in co-authoring several scientific works: 28 papers in SCI-WOS journals (7 as first author) with ~500 citations and an h-index of 15 in the WOS metrics; 1 book chapter; 3 conference papers; 10 oral presentation; and more than 40 poster presentations. She also participated in the organisation of 1 international scientific meetings (2014) and one webinar (2020), co-supervised 2 MSc student (2019 and ongoing) and was project reviewer for the US Federal grant proposal Saltonstall-Kennedy Grant Program from NOAA in 2019 (FY19) and 2020 (FY20). Recently she participated in the BluAct competition, with the AlgaBioTec team and won the 1st prize aimed at projects/business ideas with a significant impact on the blue economy.
