S Galante-Oliveira (Porto - Portugal, 1979) is Assistant Researcher (tenure) at the University of Aveiro (UA). She is member of the School General Board and of the Biology Department Executive Committee, is Vice-Director of the Master program in Ecotoxicology and Risk Analysis, assuming the regency and exclusive teaching of the course 'Life Support Systems & Stocking of Marine Organisms' taught to several Master programs by UA. With 20 years of research experience in the field of Marine Biology, started her career after distinction by merit scholarship for an outstanding academic performance in 2002, and professional training at the Marine Biological Association of the UK in 2003. Graduated in Biology by UA in 2004 and obtained the PhD in Biology by UA in Mar.2010. Was a research technician in the Laboratory of Cellular, Molecular and Analytical Studies of CIIMAR (Associated Laboratory of the University of Porto, UP) in 2009 and 2010, and provided specialized services in Biological Sciences (as self-employed PhD Biologist) from Nov.2010 until being able to fund Post-doctoral research. Started a 1st Post-Doc in Apr.2011 and a 2nd in Sep.2016, both hosted at UA's Associated Laboratory CESAM (in collaboration with CIIMAR, the Institute of Biomedical Sciences Abel Salazar of UP and the National Laboratory of Energy and Geology), period during which has also lectured courses of Master programs at UA's Biology Department and performed internships at globally renowned institutions: INSERM (French Institute of Health and Medical Research), SAMS (Scottish Association of Marine Science) and HPL-UM (Horn Point Lab, University of Maryland, USA). Focused on the study of sclerochronological biomarkers for environmental monitoring of marine pollution and climate change, Post-Doc projects made her one of today's few experts in bivalves and gastropod carbonates' morphostructure and sclerochemistry. Participated in 5 research projects: was project CliMaStat PI (awarded by FCT & PT2020 framework), the group leader of project BIOREC (EU-FP7-RI Assemble) and member of one of the research teams of UA providing scientific consultancy to the shellfish aquaculture sector, totalling -between funding raised to fund career (grants/contracts) and research (projects/services)- >0.5M¿. Completed the supervision of 7 undergraduate and 13 postgraduate students (1 Post-doc), and the coordination of 5 research associates (46% in the last 5 years of activity). Scientific output counts with co-authorship of 93 colleagues from 30 research units (53% of which in foreign countries). Beyond 46 scientific communications (8 oral and 38 posters; 80% in international meetings), published a total of 31 full articles in SCI-WoS high impact journals (50% as lead or senior author), counting with 710 citations under SCI-WoS metrics and an h-index of 15. All original articles published in the last 5 years were made available in top quartile journals, 67% of which >90% percentile. Joining her quite diverse activity, the vast experience in biomonitoring environmental change in the marine environment granted her honourable nomination as expert for the fulfilment of the Oslo and Paris (OSPAR) Convention: she is now member of the OSPAR Commission Working Group on Monitoring and on Trends and Effects of Substances in the Marine Environment (WG MIME), being at the genesis of the legislative framework aimed to protect the marine environment in the NE Atlantic.
