Ana Sofia Marques (ASM) completed her bachelor degree in Biotechnology in 2020 at University of Aveiro (UAVR). Her bachelor’s final project, entitled “Optimization of L-Asparaginase production by Bacillus subtilis”, was carried out at the Aveiro Institute of Materials (CICECO, UAVR). During this period, she had the opportunity to acquire scientific and technical knowledge in the production of enzymes by bacteria through fermentation and collaborated in writing a review article on L-asparaginase recombinant production processes (https://doi.org/10.1007/s00253-021-11359-y). Afterwards, she did a summer internship at Lusogenes company (Aveiro, Portugal) where she learned about genetic improvement using reproductive biotechnologies (artificial insemination and sperm preservation/cryopreservation). By the end of 2022, she completed her master degree in biotechnology, with specialization in Molecular Biotechnology and Bioengineering, at the same institution. During the first academic year of her Master, ASM carried out volunteer research activities at CICECO in a project related to studying the effect of deep eutectic solvents in the stability of immunoglobulin G antibodies, that resulted in the publication of one scientific article (http://dx.doi.org/10.1039/d2gc03415h). At the end of the first year of her master, she did a second summer internship at NeuroSoV (Covilhã, Portugal), where she had the opportunity to follow some in vivo studies and immunohistochemistry assays for developing a new molecule for Parkinson’s Disease. ASM then developed (CICECO, UAVR) her MSc thesis entitled “Purification and stability of antibodies using alternative materials and solvents”. During this period, she had the opportunity to acquire and consolidate scientific and technical skills in protein analysis methodologies (e.g., SE-HPLC and SDS-PAGE). Up to date, she is co-author of two scientific articles, one of them in the high impact journal Green Chemistry. During her academic path, ASM had the opportunity to disseminate the results of her research in two conferences and has participated in several workshops and webinars to expand her knowledge in different scientific domains. Recently, she won the competition for the best logo and it was chosen as the official logo for the UAVR-RNA Club and she was awarded with an one-year trainee membership in the RNA Society. Currently, ASM is a Research Fellow at CICECO (UAVR), hired under the framework of a European Innovation Council-funded project (Yscript-Ref. 101047214). Her work focuses the stabilization and extraction of bioproduced mRNA using biocompatible ionic liquids. In this context, she spent 3 months as a visiting researcher at the CBM-CNRS (Orléans, France).
