Catarina Vale Gomes (CVG), graduated in Pharmaceutical Sciences, obtained her master and PhD degrees in Neurosciences and Pharmacology. CVG was invited assistant professor of Pharmacology and Pathophysiology (Faculty of Medicine, Coimbra) and is Assistant Professor of Pharmacology and Pharmaceutical Care (Faculty of Pharmacy, Coimbra), coordinator professor of Pharmacology (Nursing School, Coimbra) and an integrated researcher of CIBIT (Coimbra Institute for Biomedical Imaging and Translational Research). Throughout her scientific career, she integrated several national research institutes, such as the Center for Neuroscience and Cell Biology (to obtain her master degree and a postdoc), the Molecular Institute of Medicine (as PhD student) and Coimbra Institute for Clinical and Biomedical Research (as postdoc and integrated researcher). Part of her doctoral work was developed in the National Institute of Health, USA, in the preclinical section of Pharmacology. From 2012, CVG has been leading research on sex differences in immune cells of the central nervous system, microglia, and their contribution to sex specificities in the clinical presentation of psychiatric disorders. The working hypothesis is that conditions (stress, genetics or environmental factors) that affect microglia during development disturb neuronal physiology, ultimately leading to neuropsychiatric disorders. CVG is also interested in the therapeutic potential of psychedelics in the context of developmental disorders in the autism spectrum. CVG has supervised more than 40 postgraduate students and leaded or participated as team member in several national and international projects. She is author/co-author of more than 50 publications (mostly Q1 and mainly as first or last author), with more than 2000 citations. She participated in several national and international meetings being an author/coauthor of more than 100 communications.
