Pedro Marques Gomes is Guest Adjunct Professor at School of Communication and Media Studies-Polytechnic Institute of Lisbon (ESCS-IPL). Researcher at Applied Research Laboratory in Communication and Media (LIACOM). He holds a PhD in Contemporary History, from Faculty of Human and Social Sciences, NOVA University of Lisbon, master’s and graduate studies in journalism (both at ESCS-IPL). Researcher at Mário Soares e Maria Barroso Foundation and at Applied Research Laboratory in Communication and Media (LIACOM). He has collaborated on several scientific research projects and published articles in edited volumes and national and international journals. Author of the books A Imprensa na Revolução: Os Novos Jornais e as Lutas Políticas de 1975 (INCM, 2021), Breve História do Partido Socialista(Público/100 Folhas, 2019), Os Saneamentos políticos no «Diário de Notícias» no Verão Quente de 1975 (Alêtheia, 2014), and co-editor of A Revolução nos Media (Tinta-da-China, 2014), Polícia(s) e Segurança Pública: História e Perspetivas Contemporâneas (MUP, 2020), A Liberdade por Princípio (Tinta-da-China, 2021), Media e Jornalismo em tempos de ditadura (Âncora, 2024) and O Jornal está na Rua: a Imprensa no centro da Revolução de Abril (Âncora, 2025). Currently, he is the PI of the research project "Ordinary Voices: organization and study of the correspondence between citizens and Mário Soares during the transition to Portuguese democracy (1974-1978)” (2023.10596.25ABR) and member of the research project “Oral history and memory(es) of the practices and habits of news consumption and of the experience and reception of news in Portugal from the testimonies of citizens” (2023.15210.PEX), both financed by Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology. He is the co-chair of the History of Communication Working Group of the Portuguese Association of Communication Sciences, member of the UNESCO Chair “Communication, Media Information Literacy and Citizenship” and of the editorial board and researcher of the project "The complete works of Mário Soares". His main research areas are the history of media and journalism, journalism and democracy, journalistic discourse analysis and its impact on society, history of the revolutionary process (1974-1975), Portuguese socialist party and biography of Mário Soares.
