Marisa Ramos Gonçalves

Marisa Ramos Gonçalves is a Portuguese Science and Technology Agency (FCT) CEEC researcher and PhD lecturer at the Centre for Social Studies, University of Coimbra. She is currently working in the research project "Transnational histories of solidarity in the south - researching 'other' knowledges and struggles for rights across the Indian ocean", on the history of solidarity relations between Mozambique and Timor-Leste (1975-1999). Previously she held a Marie Sklodowska-Curie/ Widening fellowship where she was the principal researcher of the project EDULIBERA| "Education as an instrument for liberation in Mozambique and Timor-Leste - histories of solidarity and contemporary reflections" funded by the EU Horizon 2020 programme (2019-2021). Marisa is a member of the International Advisory Council for the National Chega! Centre (CNC), an Institute of Memory under the oversight of the Cabinet of the Prime-Minister of Timor-Leste. She received her doctorate from the Faculty of Law, Humanities and the Arts, University of Wollongong, Australia, in the area of history and human rights. Since 2008 she has taught at the National University of Timor Lorosa'e, the Australian Catholic University and the University of Wollongong in Australia, and at the Faculty of Economics/Centre for Social Studies, University of Coimbra, as a lecturer in the PhD programme "Postcolonialisms and Global Citizenship". Marisa pursues research themes at the intersection between history and memory, postcolonial studies, education, local knowledge systems and movements for social justice and rights in the global south. She published on: memory, history and generations in Timor-Leste; human rights, justice and reconciliation; street art; immigrant women in Portugal.
