Vanessa Mourão Ferreira Sampaio Azevedo is an Invited Assistant Professor at University of Maia and Universidade Católica Portuguesa - Braga. She also collaborates a team member of the research group "Sexuality and Gender" from the Center for Psychology at the University of Porto. After completing her basic training in psychology at the University of Minho, she began a career mainly in applied research on life experiences and, mainly about victimization, adverse and traumatic experiences. In the same line of research, she is interested in the impact of life experiences on physical and psychological health and the development of the individual throughout their lifespan. Her Ph.D. thesis, developed at the University of Minho, entitled "Life experiences and psychopathological symptoms (re)told in adulthood: What people tell about them? How consistent are their reports? And which variables matter?" allied all these topics with methodological concerns. More recently, she started working in clinical forensic psychology in the field of sexual violence, mainly with potential offenders. Concomitantly, she has being involved in studies about human sexuality, especially, sexual health promotion and risk reduction. She also has an interest in widowhood and sexuality, sexual behavior, and health. She has published several articles in national and international journals and has collaborated with various (inter)national researchers.
