The fascination for human health protection/promotion led Filipa to a graduation in Environmental Health in the Escola Superior de Saúde, Porto (2010 - 2014) and to a Master in Occupational Safety and Hygiene Engineering in the University of Porto (2014 - 2016). The aim of her thesis was to assess the genotoxic risks of intensive physical activity among dancers from the National Company of Ballet. The interest for this field guided her for a research grant (HEBE - Project NORTE-01-0145-FEDER-000010) from the Institute of Public Health - Porto University. The main purpose of it, was to investigate the genotoxic effects among swimmers due the exposure to trihalomethanes in indoor swimming pools. During her research journey, Filipa have published both research papers as first author as well as co-author, in international peer-reviewed journals. The expertise that she acquired comprised the recruitment of study participants; questionnaires administration; biological sampling, and processing of different biomatrices; protocol optimizations; biomarkers evaluation (dose and effect); data analysis and scientific production. During her scientific career, she had also the opportunity to be involved in different tasks in the frame of several human biomonitoring R&D projects; to participate and contribute with different scientific communications; to be part of organizing committee of some international conferences and to be recognized with some scientific awards. Recently (2020), she enrolled the Doctoral Programme in Public Health by the Faculty of Medicine of Porto University with the project entitled "Biomonitoring Firefighter Occupational Exposure" through a FCT grant. Dedicated and motivated she aims to continue pursuing her scientific career within the scope of Public Health.
