Catarina de Oliveira Tomé Lopes Pires is a psychologist and researcher highly interested in the study of Pain. Associate Professor in Psychology at the Department of Psychology of Universidade Autónoma de Lisboa (UAL) 2020. Invited Assistant Professor of Psychology at the Social Sciences Department of Universidade Aberta/Open University since 2020 to 2021. Member of the Psychology Center for Research (CIP) at UAL since 2021. B.S. in Psychology (2003, University of Bedfordshire, Luton - UK), M.S. in Health Psychology (2004, University of Bedfordshire), Pain Psychology (2007, Cooperativa de Ensino Superior Politécnico e Universitário - CESPU, Gandra, Portugal), and Behaviour Evaluation and Assessment (2008, Universitat Rovira i Virgili - URV, Tarragona, Spain), and a PhD in Psychology (2014, URV). Main research interests have been focused on the analysis of (1) the psychosocial factors in the onset and maintenance of chronic pain in adults and children, (2) evidence-based pain psychosocial interventions, and (3) social pain disparities. Research methodologies reveal knowledge on qualitative, quantitative and synthesis approaches. Published 45 articles in journals. Has 2 section(s) of books and 2 book(s). Several scientific awards and/or honors have recognized her scientific contributions, that is, the I Battestini Award in Primary Care for the best innovative healthcare unit (2018) of the Academy of Medical Sciences of Tarragona and the Health and Social Service Network of Santa Tecla (Spain), the Social Council of Social Research Award on Social Impact of Research in the field of Sciences of Health and Life Areas (2018) of the Social Council of the URV (Spain), the Gregorio Marañón National Research Award (2018) of the Nursery Research Department of the Gregorio Marañón Hospital (Spain), and the Hilgard Award for the best theoretical paper on hypnosis (2016) of the Society for Clinical and Experimental Hypnosis (United States). Participated as Pos-doctoral Fellow in 1 project(s) and Researcher in 2 project(s). She has linguistic and knowledge skills on Portuguese, English, Spanish, Catalan, French and Portuguese Sign Language (level 1).
